At Silver City Aluminum, we are dedicated to providing our customers with the absolute best standards of quality control and service. Our ultimate goal is to provide a superior custom aluminum product that is designed according to the client’s specifications and that will exceed all expectations. We keep our focus on the application of the product itself, considering all of the specifics concerning its intended end-use. Environment, frequency, temperature, and other considerations can impact the finished product’s durability, effectiveness, and function. This is why we get involved in the process of product development as soon as we can so we can help our clients create a finished design that will meet their unique needs. We take pride in our ability to create specialty extrusions, sustainable aluminum extrusions, and extrude aluminum alloys that can be used in extreme environments.
Knowledge and Experience
One of the reasons our clients come to Silver City Aluminum is that we have earned a reputation for being highly proficient in custom aluminum products. Our technicians and engineers have had many years of training and experience, which provides us with a clear advantage over other aluminum manufacturers. By getting involved in the design process for our customers’ projects, we are able to share our many years of experience and knowledge about how to extrude aluminum alloys to help them prevent corrosion in extreme environments, increase longevity and durability, and improve strength for greater safety. Specialty extrusions, including telescoping profiles, custom finishing options, and complex profiles, are in high demand by clients who demand increased efficiency, effectiveness, and more sustainable aluminum extrusions.
Our experience pays off in our ability to provide accurate and repeatable results while maintaining lead times that far exceed the industry standard. Most specialty extrusions take between 30-45 days from the date that the order is placed until the day it is delivered to the client. At Silver City Aluminum, we are able to achieve quality results in a fraction of the time, taking just three to four weeks maximum. This is our standard lead time. We do everything in-house, eliminating time-wasting delays caused by sending orders out to be fabricated or finished. This also helps us maintain the highest level of quality control, inspecting each piece through every step of the process to ensure the best possible results. We can deliver our custom aluminum products to clients via our own fleet of trucks and can even do special orders for emergency situations with a three to seven-day turnaround, if necessary.
Quality Materials for Best Results
We purchase raw aluminum billet from several different suppliers that is made of 99.9 percent recyclable aluminum. We understand that many of our clients are interested in manufacturing sustainable aluminum extrusions, so we take care to use aluminum billet that helps them to achieve those goals. Once we receive the billet, our crew takes the time to pre-cut the seven-inch diameter pieces of aluminum into the proper size. This provides a couple of benefits, including minimizing scrap and reducing costs for our clients. Our cuts are calculated based on the length and weight of the profile. We then pre-heat the materials for processing, loading them into a long oven to reach a specific temperature before getting to the extrusion press. This is a proprietary temperature that we use based on our many years of experience working with 6000-series aluminum alloy.
The metal is then pushed at approximately 10 million pounds of pressure through the profile or die. This can be a standard or custom shape, depending on the needs of the client. The aluminum makes its way through the steel profile to create the exact shape that the client requires. We take the extruded metal to our cooling table, which is 160-feet in length. Through the use of opposing stretchers, the metal is then stretched while still warm into the perfect dimension. We then cut the metal according to the client’s specifications before heat-treating it to harden the aluminum alloy to its maximum capacity. Every step of this process is designed to provide our customers with specialty extrusions and custom aluminum products that meet their specifications and exceed expectations. Each phase of the process is fully-integrated and automated through PLC control technology to maintain consistent and dependable quality control.
