When most people hear the term “custom,” they don’t necessarily think about cost savings. The word custom is often associated with higher costs due to the increased designing or attention that must be provided during production. However, when it comes to custom aluminum extrusion, our clients have the unique opportunity to lower costs associated with secondary operations, fabrication, and other manufacturing services when they work with our designers to create custom aluminum profiles. Working with a team of experienced engineers and technicians can even help to enhance the abilities of the finished piece, increasing longevity, durability, and also to further prevent corrosion through design.
How It Works
Our team is dedicated to providing each client with the absolute best standards of quality control and service. We have found that the sooner our team can become involved in the development phase of a part, product, or component, the more value the client can achieve with their custom aluminum profiles. Every member of our team, from the engineers and designers to the technicians who operate the machinery on the floor, is highly trained and experienced to provide a superior custom aluminum product that will exceed expectations. One of the reasons for our success is that we keep our focus on the application of the product, including all specifics of its intended use. This ensures that we are able to help our clients create a completed design that will best meet their needs.
Getting involved in the design process helps us to improve quality control and ensure exceptional customer service. Our lead times are some of the best in the business. Because we do everything in-house at our one-stop-shop in Southeastern Massachusetts, we can far exceed the industry standard of 30-45 days from the date the order is placed until the day that the order is delivered to the client. Our standard lead time at Silver City Aluminum is typically three to four weeks maximum. We can even process special orders for clients who urgently need materials in an emergency, producing orders and delivering them within three to seven days, if necessary. We do this only in the case of an emergency and as a special favor to our valued clients.
Some of the skills and experience that we share with our clients include assistance with choosing the best aluminum surface treatments for each item, methods to prevent corrosion through design, and techniques to avoid surface defects. Our understanding of the various mechanical properties of our alloys can also be used to enhance custom aluminum extrusion to provide the desired results. At Silver City Aluminum, we use the 6000-series of alloys for our standard and custom aluminum profiles, including 6063, 6005, and 6463 in a variety of tolerances, based on the needs of the client. We offer a wide range of design tips on our website, including standard and complex options that can be applied to the profile.
Why Custom Saves
One of the most significant reasons why custom aluminum profiles save manufacturers money is by designing in the precise shape and options required to eliminate the need for many secondary operations and fabrication. While we do offer a wide range of fabrication services at our facility, including CNC fabrication, heli-coiling, and assembly, we do everything we can to help our clients create custom aluminum extrusion shapes to best serve their needs. Instead of having to do extra welding, cutting, and fabrication, our custom design can give customers the shape they need without all of the extra work. We are fully capable of providing any additional services that the client requires, but we do all we can to help them save time and money through design.
All of the time and money savings can translate to even faster lead times. Because we do everything in-house and don’t waste time by sending out parts and components to be fabricated, painted, or anodized, we can take care of it much quicker than the standard industry lead times. Our standard lead time at Silver City Aluminum is three to four weeks, which is about half of what you can expect at other extrusion and fabrication facilities.
