At Silver City Aluminum, we do everything in house. From the first time you contact our team to the moment that your order is delivered, we do it all. There are a few reasons why we do this, including quality control and improved lead times. Our clients appreciate the attention to detail that our one stop shop fabrication and extrusion facility provides, covering everything from custom aluminum extrusion designs to post extrusion operations, finishing solutions, and more. Whatever your needs or requirements for the project, we can help you to achieve your goals with our custom extrusion designs.
Step One: Engineering and Design
Every project begins with a professional consultation. We are dedicated to providing the best standards of quality control and customer service to every client that we work with at Silver City Aluminum. Our goal is to manufacture superior custom aluminum extrusion products that will exceed all expectations. One of the reasons for our success is that we keep our focus on the application of the product itself and consider all specifics for the intended end-use. Our many years of providing quality custom extrusion designs to our clients have helped us to realize that the sooner we are able to get involved in the process of product development, the more we can help our clients create a finished design that will meet their needs. We take pride in becoming fully involved in the design process for every customer project.
Step Two: Custom Aluminum Extrusion
Once the custom extrusion designs for the profile are complete, we can begin the extrusion process. We purchase our aluminum billet from several different suppliers and use only 99.9 percent recyclable aluminum. We pre-cut our billets to minimize scrap and reduce the cost for our customers. Our cuts are calculated based on the length and weight of the profile. Our team pre-heats the materials to a specific temperature for proper extrusion. This is achieved by loading the billets into one of our custom ovens before we begin the extrusion process. The metal is then pushed through the steel die at approximately 10 million pounds of pressure. The aluminum alloy flows through the profile to create the exact shape that the client has designed. The products are cooled, stretched into the proper dimension, and cut according to the client’s specifications before heat-treating to harden the aluminum to its maximum capacity.
Step Three: Post Extrusion Operations
While one of the significant benefits associated with custom extrusion designs is a reduction in the amount of post extrusion operations required for completion, there are still some extra services that can be provided. For example, at Silver City Aluminum, our fabrication department has the unique ability to custom fabricate just about any part or design that our clients desire. Through the use of state-of-the-art equipment and highly skilled technicians, we can provide our clients with fully finished products at our one stop shop fabrication and extrusion facility that exceed expectations. CNC fabrication for long and short parts, punching with custom pneumatic and hydraulic punches for low or high volume jobs, as well as tight-tolerance precision sawing and mitering is also available. Standard secondary operations include de-burring for all of our machined parts, as well as specialized services, including heli-coiling and assembly.
Step Four: Custom Finishing Solutions
We even provide top quality finishing solutions at our one stop shop fabrication and extrusion facility. Our paint line runs almost non-stop, and we strive for perfection in all of our painting services to achieve a consistent color application and top-rated adhesion to meet industry requirements. Our pre-treat process includes a four-stage system that features an etch, a clean wash, a neutralizing wash, and a standard pre-wash to help guarantee excellent adhesion to our custom aluminum extrusion products. Customers can also choose powder-coating and anodizing, depending on their needs. Our finishing applications can be clear, black, white, or an unlimited array of colors, textures, and styles. Make sure to speak with one of our technicians for more information about finishing solutions for custom extrusion designs.
Step Five: Trucking and Shipping Services
At Silver City Aluminum, we have our own fleet of trucks and deliver all across the country. Because we control our own delivery schedules and routes, we can ensure on-time delivery. This also provides us with the opportunity to control the extrusion process and quality of the product from start to finish. We can also work with customers who want to use their own personal trucks or LTL carriers, as we have several docks inside and outside to accommodate any shipping request. We can even create custom crates for LTL shipments to minimize any potential damage that could be incurred while shipping on someone else’s truck. Our lead times are the best in the business, ranging between 3-4 weeks maximum as our standard time. We even offer special order opportunities for our clients in an emergency with lead times that can range from three days to a week.
