One of the reasons why our clients choose to work with our facility is that we do everything in-house. From the initial design work with our team of talented engineers through the extrusion process, fabrication, secondary operations, custom finishing, and even shipping via our fleet of trucks – it all happens right here at our Taunton, MA facility. We don’t send out your parts, products, or components to any third-party service. The work that you require can be done right here, whether you need specific CNC fabrication post-extrusion or if you would like each piece painted, powder-coated, or anodized. While custom extrusion design can reduce the number of secondary operations that are required to get the results that you need, there are still extra services that can be performed on-site, including sawing and deburring, as well as heli-coiling in New England, to ensure that all requirements are met for your custom aluminum products.
Our Fabrication Capabilities
We have a fully functional machine shop on-site that we can use to fabricate long and short part orders, depending on your needs. Our high-speed Emmegi CNC machines can fabricate pieces up to 30-feet in length. They utilize a 4+1 controlled axis, which allows the spindle to be continuously controlled in the range of 0-180 degrees. In addition to the spindle rotation, we also have angle machining heads that can be used to machine the five faces of a processed part. Our high-speed units can work to machine, drill, and tap at extremely tight tolerances to provide consistent and reliable results.
Our short part fabrication is completed with high-speed Fanuc Robo Drill units, which can fabricate parts from as small as one-quarter of an inch up to 27-inches in length. They operate off of a 3-axis high-speed system, which provides extremely tight tolerance machining and consistency for our clients. We are also extremely adept at working with orders that require custom pneumatic and hydraulic punches. Our team can work with you to create custom punches for low and high-volume jobs, providing the highest standard of quality and consistency to meet or exceed your expectations.
Other fabrication tools and services available at our facility include:
- state-of-the-art B&O precision saws for finish cutting our extrusions; capabilities for extremely tight tolerances on pieces ranging from one-quarter of an inch up to 240-inches in length
- mitering saws with capabilities ranging from 22.5 to 135 degrees on parts and components ranging from 13.75-inches up to 19-feet, 8-inches
- heli-coling in New England is particularly popular for clients in the aerospace industry, which provides a permanent conventional screw thread that is stronger and more reliable, reducing corrosion, rust, seizing issues, and increased wear over time
Deburring Services for All Machined Parts
One of the services that we offer is standard for all machined parts at Silver City Aluminum. We de-burr every part, component, or product that we create that undergoes punching and other types of fabrication at our facility. We do this because there are sometimes small aluminum burrs left behind after these services are performed. Fabrication, sawing and deburring are all performed together by our technicians for small and large projects, including standard and custom extrusion design. This is just one of many types of quality control measures that we implement to ensure customer satisfaction and superior results for every order that we fill.
The two types of de-burring services that we perform include:
- VIBRATORY – this technique is used particularly for high-volume jobs, utilizing a very large, fully-automated tumbler encasement with porcelain media inside; the porcelain is used to effectively remove any burrs off of the parts as they are moved around inside the encasement without scratching or damaging the finished materials
- TUMBLE – while this is very similar to vibratory de-burring, the pieces are tumbled differently in a drum that allows for 360-degree continuous movement for a specified time until all of the burrs are effectively removed from the parts during the process for custom aluminum products
Custom Finishing Solutions
Another way that we help our clients to achieve their goals is by providing professional painting, powder-coating, and anodizing services at our facility. This can be used for function, as in increasing the protective coating after sawing and deburring to create an even longer-lasting, more durable, and corrosion-resistant part or product. It can also be used to improve the aesthetics of the finished piece, including choosing a unique or custom color, as well as adding texture or other beneficial attributes. Our paint line at Silver City Aluminum runs almost non-stop to create custom aluminum products. We strive for perfection in all of our painting services to achieve a consistent color application and top-rated adhesion to meet the requirements of every industry that we serve.
We work just as hard to achieve top quality standards with our powder-coating and anodizing services. Our team works with several different powder coaters and anodizers to provide our clients with a finish that will give them an aesthetic look that they require, as well as the high-performance that they need for their industry. Our services are designed to ensure the best possible outcome, offering excellent adhesion and finishing for custom extrusion design, as well as improved lead times to allow our clients to obtain the completed materials on schedule. Customers can choose from a variety of options, including clear or black anodizing, multi-color anodizing, and an unlimited array of powder-coating color options.
