In just about every type of manufacturing, there are inherent benefits in choosing a custom solution over a standard product. When it comes to the aluminum extrusion industry, custom designs help manufacturers to take advantage of all the benefits of aluminum products. Knowledge and experience working with this sustainable material can help to prevent corrosion through design, increase strength, boost durability, and even reduce costs associated with secondary operations, fabrication, and assembly.
It pays to work with an aluminum extrusion service that has dedicated itself to recruiting highly skilled engineers, training technicians, and investing in state of the art equipment and technology to maintain a high level of quality. At Silver City Aluminum, we do it all in-house, from the initial conception and design phase working side by side with our clients, all the way through extrusion, fabrication, custom finishing solutions, assembly, and shipping. Our lead times far exceed the industry standard, and our quality control measures go above and beyond client expectations for superior results.
Standard and Custom Aluminum Profiles
Every single order we fill is made from high quality 99.9 percent recyclable aluminum that we purchase from several different suppliers. Our team starts by pre-cutting the billets that we receive in long lengths to the proper size to minimize scrap. Our cuts are calculated based upon the length and weight of the profile. This is true with both standard and custom aluminum extrusion. The alloy chosen will be based upon the client’s needs and requirements, whether to prevent corrosion through design and increase durability or to further enhance the benefits of aluminum products.
The materials are pre-heated to a specific temperature to provide the means for proper extrusion. The metal is pushed at approximately ten million pounds of pressure through the steel profile or die to create the desired shape. The aluminum is then cooled down on our 160-foot table, which provides for a maximum extrusion length of 30 feet. We can stretch the extruded metal into the desired dimension while it is still warm through the use of opposing stretchers. The metal is then cut according to the client’s needs before being heat-treated to harden the aluminum to its maximum capacity.
State of the Art Equipment
Our technicians use top of the line equipment, machinery, and techniques to create products that exceed aluminum extrusion industry standards. Our components are fully integrated and automated, but the human element remains in that we keep a constant eye on the extrusion process every step of the way to ensure a high level of quality control. Through the advancement of PLC control technology, we can communicate with our machines online from virtually any location in the world. We have the ability to see how the machine is functioning, the rate of speed the products are being produced, the exact extrusion recipe, and all other essential variables to ensure a consistent and dependable result.
We do everything in-house at our Taunton, Massachusetts facility, from the initial engineering and design phase on through to the standard or custom aluminum extrusion. We also offer fabrication capabilities for secondary operations to help our customers save time and money during production. From CNC fabrication to assembly, our services are designed to maximize the return on the client’s investment and produce a finished product. Finishing solutions are also available, including powder-coating and anodizing, as well as custom painting services. We even ship our products to our clients via our own fleet of trucks within 3-4 weeks maximum – this is our STANDARD lead time. The current industry standard is between one to one-and-a-half months from the date that the order is placed until the day that it is delivered.
Why Custom Aluminum Extrusion Matters
At Silver City Aluminum, our focus is kept on the application of the product and the environment in which it will be used. Our many years of experience working to prevent corrosion through design and maximize the high strength-to-weight advantage of aluminum materials pays off for our customers. Whether their goals are to improve fuel economy in the automotive industry or increase the lifetime of outdoor furniture and patio products, we can help them to exceed their expectations. By getting fully involved in the process from beginning to end, we are able to help our clients create a finished design that will help them to elevate their company brand and produce a top quality product.
