When it comes time to choose the best aluminum finishing solutions for your custom or standard rod and bar aluminum extrusion, it is important to consider the options available at your one stop shop fabrication and finishing service. Silver City Aluminum has many years of experience, industry knowledge, and training with all of the latest products, materials, and equipment to ensure the best possible results for our customers. Painting aluminum products, applying powder-coating and using anodizing solutions are the three methods that we use at our facility. These finishing options are by far the best solutions used for aluminum extrusion, and we go the extra mile to ensure that we use industry practices designed to exceed standards and expectations.
Custom Finishing Solutions
In addition to the custom aluminum extrusion design and top quality standard profile extrusions, we also offer comprehensive finishing solutions and services. These options can be used to further increase the abilities and advantages of your finished product design. Other aluminum fabrication shops will usually send this type of work out to third-party providers, increasing lead time considerably and making them unable to guarantee quality control for the parts while they are out of their sight. We keep everything in-house at our one stop shop fabrication facility to ensure a consistent color application, top-rated adhesion and guarantee that your finished products are handled with care. Whether you choose powder-coating, anodizing, or are interested in painting aluminum products, it is important to know that the quality of the finishing work will match the standards used in manufacturing.
- Painting – At Silver City Aluminum, our paint line runs almost non-stop, including a pre-treat process that includes a four-stage pre-wash system, including an etch, a clean wash, a neutralizing wash, and a standard pre-wash to guarantee adhesion and long-lasting results. We use a vertical electrostatic polycron line that is capable of handling aluminum extrusion design parts and components up to 21-feet in length. We apply the paint at approximately 2 ml’s wet in thickness, exceeding industry standard requirements. As the parts pass through the paint line, they are continuously monitored and checked by our staff to ensure top quality results and consistent color application. The materials are then cured through a baking process in our custom ovens and then taken off the line one at a time by hand to be inspected by our team of highly trained technicians before being taken to the shipping department.
- Powder-Coating – Our secondary finishing options also include powder-coating, which involves the use of several different powder coaters to provide our clients with a finish that will give them the desired results. Powder-coating is not just about ensuring a specific aesthetic look in a particular color or style, but also about providing additional protection to the metal underneath to increase the durability and longevity of the finished piece. Our team of highly trained technicians can help our customers to choose the best powder-coating products, colors, and styles to meet their standards and goals. Depending on the methods chosen, the lead time for this part of the process can vary. Make sure to speak with our engineers and technicians about all of your needs before the project begins.
- Anodizing – This particular process involves the dyeing of short or long pieces of custom extrusion or standard rod and bar aluminum. Anodizing can be applied for small and big runs as soon as the extrusion and fabrication part of the process is complete. One of the more popular aluminum finishing solutions, anodizing can come in a variety of colors and styles, adding aesthetic appeal and texture to the finished piece at our one stop shop fabrication facility. Choose from clear anodizing, black anodizing, multi-color anodizing, or create your own custom anodizing finish by request. Our team can answer any questions that you might have about these aluminum finishing solutions.
Which Option is Best?
Unfortunately, there is no easy answer about which finishing solutions are best for your particular project. The answer will vary depending on a number of variables, including the industry that the parts or products are being designed for, how the component will be used, the environment that it will be used in, and the life expectancy of the finished project. Painting aluminum products, powder-coating, and anodizing can all enhance the look, performance, and appeal of the part, product, or component. Some clients only want aluminum finishing solutions that will help make the product look a certain way, while others want to establish a protective coating that will help the custom or rod and bar aluminum extrusion last even longer. Your needs and the demands on the finished product will help to determine the best option for your standard or custom aluminum extrusion design.
