You will hear a lot about how custom aluminum extrusion design is used to reduce the need for secondary operations. However, even custom aluminum products can be further customized through the use of strategic extrusion and fabrication. Used together, companies can create cost-effective parts, products, and components that truly take advantage of all the aluminum extrusion industry has to offer. At Silver City Aluminum, we have a complete fabrication department that can provide our clients with custom fabrications. This helps us to go above and beyond the typical aluminum extrusion design to exceed our clients’ expectations.
High-Quality Custom Fabrications
We take pride in being able to fabricate just about any part or design that our clients require. This includes the initial design phase for custom aluminum extrusion all the way to secondary operations after extrusion is complete. We hold ourselves to the highest of standards, working diligently to help our clients achieve their goals while creating finished products that are top quality. Our team of highly trained engineers and technicians can provide specific information about our capabilities. With extrusion and fabrication, we can create custom aluminum products in just any size or shape to meet your specifications.
- Long Part Fabrication – CNC fabrication can be used to further stretch the abilities of the aluminum extrusion industry. We use high-speed Emmegi CNC machines to provide long part fabrication for extrusions up to 30 feet in length. These particular units feature a 4+1 controlled axis, which allows the spindle to be continuously controlled in the range of zero to 180-degrees. Our technicians also use angle machining heads to machine the five faces of a processed part. We can machine, drill, and tap at extremely tight tolerances to provide a consistent, perfected results each and every time.
- Short Part Fabrication – At Silver City Aluminum, our technicians can also fabricate short parts, according to our clients’ specifications. We use our high-speed Fanuc Robo Drill units to fabricate parts between one-quarter of an inch on up to 27-inches in length. Our short part fabrication unit operates off of a 3-axis system, designed to machine parts to extremely tight tolerances. We are able to achieve exact results with consistency every single time.
- Other Fabrication Options – In addition to CNC machining of long parts and short part fabrication, we have many years of experience creating custom pneumatic and hydraulic punches for low and high volume jobs. Precision sawing with our B&O state-of-the-art precision saws, provide finish cutting for our extrusions between one-quarter of an inch to up to 240-inches in length. Mitering is also available in ranges between 22.5 to 135 degrees at lengths between 13.75 inches on up to 19-feet, 8 inches.
Secondary Operations
Part of our standard services for aluminum extrusion design of custom aluminum products is de-burring. We de-burr all of our machined parts following extrusion and fabrication as part of the standard process. We provide this services after all of the fabrication, punching, mitering, and drilling has been completed, to ensure quality results. In the aluminum extrusion industry, it is important to go back and remove any small burrs that might be left behind. In our way of thinking, this is just another essential step in providing our clients with quality control measures. Our goal is to achieve customer satisfaction with every single order we complete.
We utilize a couple of different de-burring techniques in our fabrication department. Vibratory de-burring is just one of the techniques that we use following extrusion and fabrication. For high volume jobs, we will usually achieve this with a fully-automated tumbler encasement that uses a porcelain media inside. This works to effectively remove any burrs off of the aluminum extrusion design parts as they are moved around in the encasement. The use of porcelain protects the materials, preventing damage or scratching from occurring during the de-burring process.
Additional Fabrication Services
At Silver City Aluminum, we like to go above and beyond for our clients. In addition to standard extrusion and fabrication services, we also provide other techniques and services that will exceed our clients’ expectations. Heli-coiling is a technique that our fabrication department is quite proud to use for our custom aluminum products. Heli-coil inserts are helically wound coils that are precision formed. Inserted into a heli-coil tapped hole, this insert works to provide a permanent conventional screw head. This delivers a much stronger and more reliable fit, eliminating the ability of the materials at the thread site to rust, corrode, seize, or wear out over time. Product assembly can also be provided to meet the needs of our clients when we are making most of the parts for the finished product at our facility.
